Bethan Davies Brown Belt 1st Kyu .My Name Is Bethan Davies I first heard about self defence was through a friend at the time I was at the 8, I first went there to see what it was like and the instructors kindly asked whether I would like to have a go and see if I liked it. Basically I enjoyed it because I continued going for the past 6 years and now I'm at the point for being the first junior black belt ever in the organisation which would be a big achievement. I enjoy going because it gives me goals to work up to and its a chance to meet new people and work hard at the same time. It gives me the confidence to stand up for myself when I’m in a bad situation. I enjoy achieve these goals because it proves that I’ve work hard and successfully obtained the required standard. It took me 6 years to get to the point I’m at now and it took a lot of hard work every Tuesday night. Every year between January and March we work off the blue mats we use this time to work on our boxing skills and our foot work, this work keeps you on Your feet and it gives you more of a realistic point of view of someone trying to attack and it shows how you can react to these situations. Working up there keeps me fit and active, it gives me something to do and something to enjoy about during a boring week of school. During the school holidays this class still continues which means instead of sitting at home watching the television ac can still keep active and train. It gives me a chance to socialise between other children who attend this class. In order for me to progress to my Black Belt, Alun has asked me to take the junior class on a couple of occassions, to help build my confidence infront of the students. This gave me the experience to share with the class all that I have learnt over my years of training. I enjoy this because I feel like I’ve helped out people to learn basic skills in a basic technique. I think it gives me the chance to mingle with the children and pick out any ideas I need to improve myself not just to help improve others. I enjoy training with an adult because it gives me a chance to work with someone who is fully grown, stronger and heavier than myself, this could build up my strength and ability to defend myself from someone twice my age and twice my height in the future. I have selecetd Total Body defence as my sports subject matter for my GCSE in School and look forward to furthering my porgress with in the organisation.
