I have the learning bug and a strong desire to try new things. In the past 2 years alone I have obtained a Masters in Animation, completed a PGCE, a Yoga Therapy Level 1 course, a Crystal Healing and Colour Therapy course and am due to become a Reiki Master. I have a strong interest in different therapies and hope to have a career in this type of work in the future. I am a massive Power Yoga/Ashtanga yoga fan and attend 4 classes each week. I would love to be able to go on to teach it in the future and I have recently been accepted onto a British Wheel of Yoga Foundation course due to start in September.
Why you started TBD
Initially I started Total Body Defence because I wanted to attend a self defence class with my younger sister who was due to leave for university. I wanted her to do classes before she left so that she was able to defend and protect herself if she ever needed to. Martial arts are always something I have wanted to try but have never taken up. For my own personal reasons for starting TBD I feel that I have been very fortunate to have gone through life without experiencing any situations where my wellbeing was threatened or in serious jeopardy. I do feel that that may not always be the case and I would like to have the techniques, skills and confidence to be able to protect myself if anything serious did ever occur.
What you most like about TBD
When I first started I was apprehensive about attending the class, but everyone there was so supportive and encouraging those nerves soon left me. I enjoy working with everyone at the club because I learn something new from each person, which only helps to improve my own training. Being one of few females at the club I find it is really beneficial to train with the guys who push me hard to do better each and every time. I enjoy the physically demanding element of the sessions which has only helped to improve my overall fitness and strength. All of the senior instructors have been amazing and in the very short time I have been at the club I have learnt a lot from all of them. Alun has been amazing throughout and pushes me hard to improve and develop which in turn makes me more determined to do well and to make him and the club proud.
Aims/Ambitions
I am looking to complete my 5th Kyu yellow belt grading hopefully sometime in September 2010. From there I want to keep progressing, learning more and work my way through the belts. My ultimate goal from this experience is to be able to implement and put in practice all of the advice, techniques, and skills I have learnt at TBD to defend and protect myself at any time and in any situation, if I ever need to.
