Training Profile - TBD Member Ian Clissold (3rd Dan Sarong TKD)
Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 2:07PM At TBD we pride ourselves in having a large range of experienced Martial Artists who cross train with us in order to ehnance their Self Defence Techniques and principles. One such Instructor is Sensei Ian Clissold 3rd Dan who’s main style is Tae Kwon Do. Herers a short summary of his training

I started practicing WTF Taekwondo 7 years ago under Master JP Kim, who I trained with up to obtaining my 1st Dan, when Master Kim returned to Korea.
7 years on and I am now a 3rd Dan and one of the instructors in the Cardiff based Soryong Taekwondo Club, training both juniors and adults.

I have also been lucky enough to enter a number of competitions and come away with a couple of gold’s.
More recently I have started to get interested in other styles of martial arts and from that, started training in Total Body Defence Ju Jitsu with Master Williams, who has started a class, which runs a weekly session in the works fitness centre.
After years of training in a style which is really focused on kicking, I feel that the techniques taught in the Ju Jitsu class have given me a fresh outlook and have introduced new element s to my own fighting style.
As a Taekwondo club, we also practise One Step Sparring techniques, a lead in to the Korean art of Hapkido so, once fully mastered, the Ji jitsu techniques being shown by Master Williams will be introduced to the Soryong students. This will enable them to become more rounded martial artists.

Recently , the club was invited to train with 9th Dan, Grand Master Park, who held a self defence and Poemsae seminar. It was interesting to see the cross-over in techniques from one style to another, enabling me to use the moves learnt from the Total Body Defence class in that environment.
Over the next few months, we will be entering a number of competitions, the first being in Portsmouth and then the UK Chung DO Kwan nationals in March. This time I am hoping that my son will defeat the current champion in a rematch; last time there was only one point in it so fingers crossed.
